A Tour of Solar Homes in lower Delaware is being organized for October 7,  2017 by local environmental groups. The organizers hope to educate the public about the costs and benefits of solar on homes and other buildings, like houses of faith or commercial/governmental buildings. Solar homeowners who might like to be on the Tour are encouraged to respond to cgarlow@solartour.org.

The Tour of Solar Homes will feature homeowners/ facility owners who host an open house at their homes to answer questions and show their solar panels, for electricity or hot water, and other “green” features, like electric cars. They will be prepared to discuss their decision to “go solar” and how it worked for them. This is a chance for the public to hear from homeowners rather than from a sales person from a solar company. The Tour will last for 4 hours, 12- 4 PM, on either Saturday October 7, 2017.

The Tour of Solar Homes is a national project of the American Solar Energy Society, www.ases.org, headquartered in Golden, Colorado. Over 100 Tours were held last year in states around America and many overseas. All the Tours happen the first weekend in October as a coordinated effort, making a bigger impact. The lower Delaware Tour is sponsored by the local chapter of ASES called Mid-Atlantic Solar Energy Society, www.mass.org which covers Delaware, Maryland, DC and Virginia. Other groups interested in sponsoring this Tour are welcome to add to the effort. The Delaware Electric Vehicle Association (DEEVA), Citizens Climate Lobby of lower Delaware and the Delaware Interfaith Power & Light are co-sponsoring the event.

Interest in solar energy has been skyrocketing as costs have plummeted, resulting in lower power bills and a better environment, especially one powered by renewable energy like solar and wind.
